Blacksmithing and wheelwright classes are taught at the History Center through Escondido Adult School. Both beginning and advanced classes are offered. Classes are 10 weeks long and typically start in January, April and September. Contact the History Center for more info.

Saturdays in the Park brings something fun and FREE to do in the park every Saturday in 2010. Most of the year it takes place between 2 and 4pm. Summer hours 3pm-5pm during July, August and September.
1st Saturday = Family Fun
2nd Saturday = Art
3rd Saturday = Concert
4th Saturday = Performances
Mark your calendar and plan to spent your Saturdays in the Park. This project is organized by the Escondido History Center and generously funded bythe Arts & Culture Working Group of The San Diego Foundation.

July 24 , 3-5pm
If you ever wanted to join the circus, this is your chance. The Lindley Lopez Circus will have a clown, contortionist and acrobats in the park. They'll even share some circus tips with you.
July 31 , 3-5pm
Local service clubs will do community service projects in the park. Then the public (this means YOU) is invited to join them for a free barbque with food donated by the Escondido Community Foundation and cooked by the Police Department. Plus, fun activities organzed by the Children's Museum, Patio Playhouse and the History Center.
August 7, 3-5pm
The History Center will help you step by in time. You'll examine items used long ago in every day life, make a craft, and play old fashioned games popular when Escondido was established in 1886.
August 14 , 3-5pm
It might be hot out, but we'll be cool when we use water to make art.
August 21 , 3-5pm
Shakey is the featured band in August! Enjoy a summertime concert from the comfort of a shady tree, and feel the breeze blowing through the park.
August 21 , 7pm activities, movie airs at dusk
Monsters vs Aliens is the third of four Movies in the Park this year. Free activities organized by the Escondido Children's Museum start at 7pm, the movie begins at dusk. Low cost snacks available. Bring low backed chairs or a blanket, and your sweater (it can get chilly when the sun goes down).
August 28 , 3-5pm
A performance by the Leisa Polynesia Dancers will make you think you're on an island.
September 4, 3-5pm
The Escondido Children's Museum will bring some family fun to the park. Details TBA.
September 11, 9:30am-4pm
The annual Grape Day Festival, with roots back to 1908, takes over the park. Grape stomping, free grapes, a fun zone, entertainment stage, international food court, bake sale, demonstrations, contests, vendors and museum tours are all part of the free community celebration. And don't forget the fun starts with a parade at 9:30 on Grand Ave. This year's theme is: A Grape Day for Heroes. Come dressed as your favorite super hero (you can even make one up) and you might win $100 in the costume contest!
